#ConversationStarters gets people talking about agroecology and farming
Food is central to everyday life and yet we rarely take the time to sit down and talk about it. Where does it come from? Who grows it? What is their life like? Could our food choices be harming people whose livelihood depends on what we eat? Could we, instead, empower families by making better food choices?
This August, as summer is in full swing and you are sharing BBQ’s or meals under the sun with family and loved ones, we invite you to get the conversation started! #ConversationStarters is a new campaign where we invite all of you to share how you get the dialogue about food going in your own circles. Not sure how to get it going? Fear not! Here are some ideas for starting conversations with your friends and family:
Prepare a native dish from one of Groundswell’s focus countries. When guests ask you about your delish fare, share with them where it’s from and tell them about Groundswell’s work there! All the information you need about our country work can be found here.
Visit your local farmer’s market or pick-your-own farm with friends. While there, take the opportunity to share a story about indigenous farmers using sustainable agroecology to farm their land and support their family. Find an inspiring story to share here.
Friends talking about their fall garden? Take that opportunity to tell them about the innovation sharing inherent in agroecology! You might even be able to set up your own sharing group to learn from each other’s gardening successes.
We can’t wait to hear how your conversations go! Share your favorite conversation starter on our Facebook or Twitter pages. And, stay tuned for more tips throughout August!
