Empowering the Next Generation:
Changing the Reality and the Narrative
2023 Field to Film Festival
Through the Youth Storytellers Program, Groundswell International and our partners in seven countries are supporting rural young people to become powerful communicators for social change; creating a people-centered, agroecological counternarrative opportunity for young people; and empowering young people to capture the experiences and daily lives of smallholder farmers in their communities.
In 2021, we piloted our very first Youth Storytellers initiative in Burkina Faso and Honduras, to empower youth to spotlight the stories in their communities and to emphasize the improved resilience achieved by these farmers through their use of agroecology.
In 2023, we expanded our program to include youth from:
Agroecological farming and resilient local food systems are more effective and beneficial for people and our planet than industrialized agriculture. Scaling these alternatives are essential for nourishing people and reversing climate change. Yet, the false but dominant narrative is that industrialized agriculture must ‘feed the world.’
